This is the sixth & final in a series of blogs posts about my personal journey to putting a Board of Advisors together. To view all blog posts on our Board of Advisors please click here.
Ready, set go! Everyone arrived on time and we had a great dinner at my home. The caterers made life simple for me so I could focus on my guests and enjoy getting to know them.
The next morning, we kicked off with a photo. I was so focused on the agenda; a photo didn’t occur to me, but thankfully it did to one of our Board members.
After a brief on our history and an outline of what I wanted to get out of our first meeting, I had our two division directors present an outline of what their business unit does for clients and what makes it unique. One thing we did not delve into that would have made sense in hindsight was high level information on pricing.
After the presentations, the meeting took on a life of its own. While we got off agenda, it was all perfect. The Board gained a clear understanding of both companies. I got clear on my most important next step to accomplishing my vision.
Before, during and after the meeting, my nervousness dissipated and I was filled with gratitude for my three fabulous Board members. I tried to express this in words, but this was a time that words just were not sufficient. I FELT gratitude. It filled every inch of my body. In retrospect, I realize a lot of what was going on with me was I was receiving. I was used to giving, to being the one with the opinion, to directing the conversation, but here my role was to receive. It is a new role for me. I think I am going to like it once I get into the groove.
