Com­mit­ted to com­mu­ni­ty and pub­lic ser­vice, Jude Hehman cur­rent­ly holds the office of may­or of The City of Fort Mitchell and pre­vi­ous­ly served for 10 years on the city coun­cil; chair­ing sev­er­al com­mit­tees dur­ing his tenure. He also served as a board over­seer on facil­i­ty expan­sion for Red­wood Reha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter and is the finance chair for Holy Cross Parish Finance Com­mit­tee. In 2013, Jude Hehman was named to the Busi­ness Courier’s Forty Under 40 list of young pro­fes­sion­als who are Greater Cincinnati’s next gen­er­a­tion lead­ers and inno­va­tors.

In 2014, Fur­long Build­ing Enter­pris­es was named to the North­ern KY Cham­ber of Com­merce Emerg­ing 30 list of region’s fastest grow­ing com­pa­nies. In 2013, Fur­long was named to the Cincin­nati Busi­ness Courier’s Fast 55 List of the Tri-State’s fastest grow­ing pri­vate com­pa­nies and again in 2016. The com­pa­ny has been award­ed the Tri-State Suc­cess Awards for 2012 and 2013.

Q&A with Jude Hehman


What are you pas­sion­ate about, in regards to your busi­ness?

Watch­ing a project evolve, from a con­cept to com­ple­tion of a build­ing is a moment you sit back a say, “I am proud of this”.  Many peo­ple and busi­ness­es have put their faith in our team to pro­vide the best ser­vice while being con­science of their cap­i­tal expense but still pro­vid­ing a stel­lar end result that every­one can be hap­py with and say, ” We did that”!

What is the most valu­able lead­er­ship les­son you have learned?

Treat peo­ple the way you want to be treat­ed.  Val­ue the peo­ple around you!  You are only as good as the peo­ple with whom you sur­round your­self. This is my mot­to for both per­son­al and pro­fes­sion­al life. To achieve your goals you need help. Suc­cess in life is influ­enced by the peo­ple you sur­round your­self with and with whom you spend time.  If you are moti­vat­ed or chal­lenged by the peo­ple around you, you will set high­er goals and achieve those goals with those sup­port­ing you. This influ­ence can be just as detri­men­tal if you are being harmed by dis­cour­ag­ing remarks, peo­ple who are hold­ing your back. I want to suc­ceed, but more­over, I want to help the peo­ple I love and care about rec­og­nize suc­cess as well.  I hope they can draw on my strengths to suc­ceed in their goals along with me.

If you could give the 20-year-old you any piece of advice, what would it be?

Do more lis­ten­ing. Work hard, ask more ques­tions of how and why.  Set goals and start look­ing ahead, think about the next step, why and how it hap­pens. Then lis­ten again. Lead with strength and humil­i­ty. Your time to enjoy suc­cess will come; but only to those who will lis­ten and
